The following information is being provided to you for information only. You do not have to call or do anything as a result of this notice. Mid Penn Bank does not disclose any nonpublic personal information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law, and therefore no opt-out option is provided with this notice.
Important Information About Procedures for Opening a New Account: To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.
What this means for you: When you open an account with Mid Penn Bank, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.
Respecting Our Customer’s Privacy: Mid Penn Bank respects your right to privacy and we will take every precaution to protect your privacy. Having the most accurate and updated information is the foundation of Mid Penn Bank’s ability to provide the best possible customer service to you. Keeping your information secure, and using it only to better service you is Mid Penn Bank’s top priority. If you decide to close your account(s) or become an inactive customer, we will adhere to the privacy policies and practices as described in this notice. Herein is our promise to you.
Collection, Use and Retention of Personal Information: The collection of personal information is designed to provide access to your personal accounts and to assist the bank in providing you with the products and services you want and need. Personal information collected and stored by the bank is used for specific business purposes, to protect and administer your personal accounts and transactions, to comply with state and federal banking regulations, and to help the bank better understand your financial needs in order to design or improve our products and services.
Protection of Information: We will safeguard the information you share with us according to strict bank standards of security and confidentiality. The bank maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your nonpublic personal information. We will limit the collection and use of customer information to the minimum we require to deliver excellent customer service to customers, which includes recommending or advising customers about any products, services or other opportunities which may better service their current or anticipated needs.
Maintenance of Accurate Information: The Bank has implemented procedures to help assure that each customer’s financial information is accurate, current and complete. We will have procedures to correct inaccurate information in a timely manner and update all customer information upon proper notification.
Limiting Employee Access to Information: The importance of confidentiality and customer privacy is addressed with every one of our employees in the Mid Penn Bank Employee Manual. We will permit only authorized employees, who are advised of their obligation to protect your privacy through the proper handling of customer information, to have access to such customer information. We will not reveal customer information to any external organization unless we have previously informed the customer in disclosures or agreements, or unless we have been authorized by the customer, permitted by law, or if we have a legal obligation. (We will supply information in response to subpoenas, to prevent a fraud or to comply with legally permitted inquiry by a government agency or regulator.)
Gathering and Sharing Information: Mid Penn Bank receives non-public personal information about customers including income, account balances, account numbers, overdraft history, information from a consumer report or information obtained through an Internet cookie, from various sources. These sources may include customer requests and applications for Mid Penn Bank products or services, customer transactions with us, and consumer reporting agencies such as credit bureaus. Non-public personal information may also include any list of individuals’ names and street addresses that is derived in whole or in part using personally identifiable financial information, other than publicly available information.
For purposes of credit reporting, verification and risk management, we will exchange information about our customers with reputable reference sources and clearing house services.
Mid Penn Bank reserves the right to share non-public personal information it has about its customers, as described above, to not only give customers superior service but also to make a wider range of products available to customers.
Mid Penn Bank may at any time form affiliate companies, which work together to provide Mid Penn Bank’s customers with a full range of financial products and services that customers want and expect. The Privacy Policy places no limitation on a bank sharing consumer information with an affiliate except as addressed in the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Mid Penn Bank reserves the right to share limited non-public personal information about current and former customers among Mid Penn Bank’s affiliate companies such as insurance service providers. The restrictions, imposed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act on sharing information obtained from consumer credit reports with affiliates, remain in place. Mid Penn Bank does not share information with affiliates concerning information obtained from a customer’s credit report.
As many financial institutions do to improve their efficiency, we may from time to time outsource some of our process work to specialist service providers. This means that on occasion we may select service companies, to perform business operations for us or work on our behalf, to provide services. Whenever we hire other organizations to perform support services, we are highly selective in choosing the companies that will perform work for Mid Penn Bank and we restrict the information we provide to these service facilities to only what they need to perform the tasks assigned. We require such service facilities to comply with strict standards of security and confidentiality and they are not permitted to release, use or transfer any customer information to any party for their own use.
In the normal course of business, Mid Penn Bank does not sell customer lists or non-public personal customer information to a third party for the purpose of solicitation, nor do we provide such information to a third party for its own independent use. Sometimes we solicit other companies to provide products and services that we cannot offer, such as insurance products. When we do this, we make available only the information they need to offer and administer these products. We are highly selective in choosing these companies and we restrict the information we provide to these service facilities to only what they need to perform the tasks assigned. We require them to comply with strict standards of security and confidentiality and they are not permitted to release, use or transfer any customer information to any party for their own use.
In some instances, we join with other financial institutions to deliver products or services. When we do so, you may be covered by the other company’s privacy policy as well.
In an effort to better serve our customers, we may disclose information about the balance in a customer’s account to a third party, such as a merchant, who calls to verify sufficient funds in the account on which a check is drawn. We will only respond to the inquiry.
Visiting Our Web Site: Visitors to Mid Penn Bank’s website remain anonymous. We do not collect identifying information about visitors to our site. We may use standard software to collect non-identifying information about our visitors, such as:
- Date and time our site was accessed
- IP address (a numeric address given to servers connected to the Internet)
- Web browser used
- City, State and Country
The bank uses this information to create summary statistics and to determine the level of interest in information available on our site.
Visitors may elect to provide us with personal information via e-mail or by completing our on-line survey. This information is used internally, as appropriate, to handle the sender’s request. It is not disseminated or sold to other organizations.

We want to ensure that you are aware of Mid Penn Bank’s Privacy Promise. We will provide a copy of this notice with many of your Mid Penn Bank account statements, annually thereafter, and when opening a new account. If we change our Privacy Promise to permit us to share additional information we have about you, or to permit disclosures to additional types of parties, you will be notified in advance.
